CABE is the governments advisor on architecture, urban design and public space.   s a public body, we encourage policymakers to create places that work for people. We help local planners apply national design policy and offer expert advice to developers and architects. We show public sector clients how to commission buildings that meet the needs of their users.  nd we seek to inspire the public to demand more from their buildings and spaces.  Advising, influencing and inspiring, we work to create well-designed, welcoming places.

CABE's three "Critical Tests" for Pathfinder schemes:

1. "1. Nothing should be demolished unless its real value has been established - and that means value as assessed by the community, which has to be at the heart of decision making."

2. "2. Nothing should be demolished unless there is a really clear strategy as to the kind of place you're trying to recreate or change, and that takes time and consideration."

3. "3. Nothing should be demolished unless it is absolutely guaranteed to be replaced by something that is much better than what is currently there."
